How long would it take to build an app? I told him a weekend

Someone I know who runs a small business asked how long it would take to build an app like the one I'd just shown him.

A year ago, I'd have said weeks. Maybe months.

I told him a weekend.

The technical barrier is nearly gone. What used to take me three weeks now takes three days. AI has changed the maths completely.

But removing one constraint just moved me to the next.

When you can build almost anything, the bottleneck shifts. Now I'm limited by time and ideas, not capability. And with so much suddenly possible, it's dangerously easy to get distracted.

So I've gone back to basics. Agile. Not for managing development cycles, but for managing my own focus. Failing fast. Killing ideas that aren't working. Staying ruthlessly prioritised.

Because the uncomfortable truth is this: I'm learning faster than I ever have, and I still feel behind. Every week there's something new. The pressure to stay ahead is relentless.

And this is the worst AI is ever going to be.

I think about what this means for the next generation entering the workforce. The rules they'll play by won't look anything like the ones I learned.

I don't have answers. But I know standing still isn't an option.
